Kitchen Treasures - Part One

As a very young child I remember singing;

Polly, put the kettle on,
Polly, put the kettle on,
Polly, put the kettle on,
We'll all have tea.

Amazingly…….. but true, I didn’t have my
first cup of tea until I was in my
early twenty’s !

My Grandmother and Mother didn’t believe
that young children should drink tea or coffee
and so we didn’t develop a taste for these
beverages until much later in life.

My Mothers favourite Pansy Cup, Saucer & Plate
I love a cup of tea now and a
Green Chai tea from New Zealand
is my all time favourite.

I have my Mothers electic jug which
"let off a lot of steam"
and served our family well for many years.

The tea bag has generally taken the place of the
tea pot for every day use however we still bring
the “humble” tea pot out for special occasions
or enjoy a high tea in a café or restaurant with
family and friends from time to time.

The tea pot has a diverse and rich history
more than any other ceramic object in our homes.

I was attracted to this pottery tea pot set
because of the beautiful glaze.

I purchased this set during my “pottery faze”.

The other tea pot in my home is a lovely girly
“tea for one” set a gift from my family.

The tea cozy was designed to snuggle around the
teapot while the tea is steeping.
The cozy keeps the tea piping hot
and allows the tea to attain its best flavor.

After the tea is done steeping and decanted into
a warmed pot the tea cozy keeps the tea hot
and allows us to enjoy the well made
brew in a leisurely fashion.

My Grandmothers tea cozy is a very
sweet knitted version.

The cards below have been inspired by the
wonderful time in the day
called  - afternoon tea.

A favourite card punch is a
tea set punch from punch bunch
and I used it on the card above.

A delightful family gift

A favourite book of mine is called
If  Teacups Could Talk
by  Emilie Barnes
with beautiful paintings by
Sandy Lynam Clough

Life is a cup to be filled,
not drained.
